The stair hall

A two-story stair hall, taken from a closed stair behind a half wall to an open stair with a frameless glass rail.

Scope
Stair hall renovation
A two-story stair hall before the work: a closed stair behind a half wall, carpeted lower steps, green walls and a painter on the landing.

Before

A closed stair rose behind a half wall, carpeted at the foot, with green walls throughout the two-story hall.

The same stair hall opened up: the half wall cut away to expose the wooden stair stringers, with yellow scaffolding in the hall.

Opened up

The half wall came out to expose the wooden stringers, and scaffolding went up in the hall.

The stair hall with a new open-tread stair, an orb chandelier hung overhead and patched drywall waiting for paint.

Rebuilt

Open treads went in, the orb chandelier was hung, and the drywall was patched for paint.

The finished stair hall: a frameless glass rail runs up the open stair and along the landing, under the orb chandelier.

Finished

A frameless glass rail now runs up the stair and along the landing. The walls are white and the hall reads as one bright space.

From the landing

View from the landing through the frameless glass rail, down to the dining table and the orb chandelier.
